Gaston County Fire Explorer Program
The Gaston County Fire Explorer Program is a great way for anyone to enter the great world of Firefighting. Any individual who is at least 13 years of age and interested can join Post 560.
This is a great place to start your learning process in Fire and Rescue techniques. Each individual will be involved in community programs such as Habitat for Humanity, Firefighter's Burn Children's Fund, and many others. We also work closely with the Gaston County Fire Marshal's office where each member learns about fire investigation processes.
If you are interested and think you have what it takes to be a Gaston County Fire Explorer, please contact Dwayne Womble at 980-522-6949.
To become a Gaston County Fire Explorer for Post 560, please print and complete a copy of the application below. If the applicant is under the age of 18, the Permission Form needs to be completed also.

History of the Explorer Program

The Gaston County Fire Explorers was introduced to the Gaston County Firefighter's Association in 1993. The Boy Scouts of America contacted Phil Welch, Director of Gaston College Regional Emergency Services Training Center, who in return contacted the Association to initiate the beginning of Post 560.

The Explorer program has been very successful in sustaining numerous members in the past who have proven this program works. Multiple fire departments within Gaston and other surrounding counties have received numerous firefighters through Post 560. Fire Departments located in Gastonia, Charlotte and Monroe have benefited through the hiring of our explorers. Past and current Directors of Post 560 have been Firefighters throughout the County, all from volunteer departments. The director's position has been handed down through the years.

Currently the Explorer Post 560 is supported by the Gaston County Firefighters Association and local businesses. We are also supported through the Boy Scouts of America.
